Calm, personalised one-to-one online support for children with ADHD, dyslexia, autism and additional learning needs

What Makes Our SEND Tuition Different

At Bedford Tutor and our online division, Kite Tutoring, we provide personalised SEND support that helps children learn with confidence, both in person and online.

💡 Inspiring a Love of Learning!

At Bedford Tutor and our online division, Kite Tutoring, we provide specialist one-to-one English and maths tuition both online and in person in Bedford for children across the UK and worldwide, with a strong focus on supporting students with SEND. We have extensive experience supporting learners with ADHD, autism, dyslexia, dyscalculia and confidence challenges, and regularly work with families attending international schools throughout the Middle East, Asia and beyond.

Founded by Annabel Walker, we draw on over fourteen years of experience supporting children and young people with a wide range of educational needs, abilities and learning styles. As someone with ADHD herself, Annabel combines professional knowledge with personal understanding, creating a learning environment where children feel understood, valued and supported.

We work with students who have ADHD, are autistic, are dyslexic or dyscalculic, as well as those who experience anxiety, confidence challenges, emotionally based school avoidance (EBSA), learning gaps, or difficulties accessing education in a traditional classroom environment.

Our personalised approach focuses on building confidence, developing skills and helping SEND learners experience success in a way that works for them. ↑ Back to top

✨ ADHD & Autistic Learners

Many students with ADHD and many autistic learners benefit from a personalised approach to learning, particularly when traditional educational environments do not fully meet their needs. Individualised support can help them build confidence, develop effective learning strategies and make meaningful academic progress.

Some students may experience challenges with:

  • Attention and focus
  • Organisation
  • Executive functioning
  • Working memory
  • Processing information
  • Confidence
  • Anxiety around learning
  • Emotional regulation
  • Managing school demands

ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder) is a difference in the way the brain develops and processes information. It can affect attention, organisation, working memory, impulse control and self-regulation, but children with ADHD are all unique.

Some children may find it difficult to concentrate for long periods, stay organised or manage distractions. Others may be constantly on the go, think and respond very quickly, or have lots of energy and enthusiasm. Many children with ADHD are highly creative, curious, imaginative and full of ideas, often bringing unique perspectives to learning.

At Bedford Tutor, we understand that traditional teaching approaches do not work for all learners. Our sessions are carefully adapted to suit each child’s individual needs, helping them develop confidence, strengthen key skills and enjoy learning in a calm, supportive and encouraging environment where they can succeed at their own pace.

Autism is a difference in the way a person experiences, understands and responds to the world around them. Autistic children are all unique, with their own personalities, strengths, interests, communication styles and ways of learning.

Some autistic children may find communication, social interaction, organisation or changes to routine more challenging. Others may experience the world more intensely through their senses, making busy or unpredictable environments overwhelming. Many autistic children also have wonderful strengths, such as creativity, honesty, deep curiosity, excellent memory or a remarkable attention to detail.

At Bedford Tutor, we believe there is no single “right” way to learn. With understanding, patience and the right support, autistic children can build confidence, develop new skills and thrive in education. Our sessions are designed to provide a calm, supportive environment where children feel respected, understood and able to learn at their own pace.

Across Bedford Tutor and Kite Tutoring, we recognise that each learner is unique. Rather than focusing on difficulties alone, we work to understand each student’s strengths, interests and individual learning profile.

In-person and online SEND support focuses on:

  • Building confidence
  • Engagement and motivation
  • Executive functioning skills
  • Organisation and study strategies
  • Memory support
  • Clear structure and expectations
  • Learning through strengths and interests
  • Developing independence

Lessons are supportive, interactive and tailored to each student’s individual needs, strengths and learning style.
Our aim is to help SEND students feel understood, experience success and develop the confidence and skills they need to thrive both academically and personally.

We have experience supporting ADHD & autistic learners in the UK and overseas, including students living in Dubai, Singapore and other international locations. ↑ Back to top

Why Children with ADHD Know the Answer but Can’t Start the Work

Understand why “I know it!” doesn’t always become “I can do it.” Discover how ADHD affects task initiation, why getting started can feel impossible, and the teaching strategies that reduce overwhelm and unlock your child’s true potential.

📖 Dyslexic Learners

Many dyslexic learners benefit from a personalised approach to learning, particularly when traditional educational environments do not fully meet their needs. Individualised support can help them build confidence, strengthen literacy skills and make meaningful academic progress.

Some students may experience challenges with:

  • Reading accuracy
  • Reading fluency
  • Spelling
  • Written expression
  • Processing written information
  • Working memory
  • Organisation
  • Confidence in literacy-based tasks

Dyslexia is a common difference in the way the brain processes language. It primarily affects reading, spelling and writing, but it does not reflect a child’s intelligence or potential. Children with dyslexia have their own unique strengths, challenges and ways of learning.

Some children may find it difficult to recognise sounds in words, remember spellings, read fluently or organise their written work. They may need more time to process information or learn new literacy skills. At the same time, many children with dyslexia are highly creative, imaginative, excellent problem-solvers and able to think in innovative ways.

Whether learning with Bedford Tutor or Kite Tutoring, we take time to understand each learner’s individual needs, adapting our teaching to build confidence alongside reading, spelling and writing skills.

In-person and online SEND support focuses on:

  • Building confidence
  • Reading development
  • Spelling strategies
  • Writing skills
  • Vocabulary growth
  • Reading comprehension
  • Study skills
  • Learning through strengths and interests

Through calm, structured and personalised lessons, we help children develop reading, spelling and writing skills while celebrating progress and encouraging long-term independence.

💎 Dyslexia-Friendly Diamond Spelling & Reading Programme

Our Diamond Spelling & Reading Programme is designed to support learners who may struggle with spelling, reading fluency, memory, processing, or written language confidence. Using a calm, structured and dyslexia-friendly approach, sessions combine spelling, reading, phonemic awareness, morphology, verbal reasoning, vocabulary development, mindfulness and confidence-building activities to help children feel more secure and successful in their learning. The programme focuses on developing strong foundations, understanding how words are built, improving literacy confidence, and encouraging a more positive relationship with reading and writing.

Lessons are personalised to each student’s individual needs, allowing them to progress at a pace that feels comfortable and achievable.

🔢 Dyscalculic Learners

Many dyscalculic learners benefit from a personalised approach to learning, particularly when traditional educational environments do not fully meet their needs. Individualised support can help them build confidence, strengthen mathematical understanding and make meaningful academic progress.

Some students may experience challenges with:

  • Number sense
  • Place value
  • Mental arithmetic
  • Times tables
  • Mathematical vocabulary
  • Problem solving
  • Remembering mathematical procedures
  • Confidence in maths

Dyscalculia is a specific learning difference that affects the way a person understands and works with numbers. It can make maths more challenging, but it does not reflect a child’s intelligence or ability to succeed. Children with dyscalculia are all unique, with their own strengths, interests and way of learning.

Some children may find it difficult to understand number concepts, recall maths facts, recognise patterns or use mathematical language. Everyday tasks such as telling the time, estimating, handling money or remembering sequences can also be more challenging. With the right teaching and support, these skills can be developed step by step.

Whether learning with Bedford Tutor or Kite Tutoring, we take time to understand each learner’s individual needs, adapting our teaching to build confidence alongside mathematical understanding.

In-person and online SEND support focuses on:

  • Building mathematical confidence
  • Developing number understanding
  • Strengthening place value knowledge
  • Improving calculation skills
  • Problem-solving strategies
  • Practical and visual learning approaches
  • Reducing maths anxiety
  • Learning through strengths and interests

Through calm, structured and personalised lessons, we help children develop number sense, calculation skills and problem-solving strategies while celebrating every success and encouraging long-term independence. Lessons are designed to be supportive, engaging and tailored to each student’s individual learning profile.

🔷 Dyscalculia-Friendly Delta Maths & Mastery Programme

Our Delta Maths & Mastery Programme is designed to support learners who may struggle with maths confidence, number sense, processing, working memory, or mathematical understanding. Sessions use a gentle, step-by-step approach to strengthen core maths foundations through visual learning, repetition, mastery techniques, mindfulness, and non-verbal reasoning activities. The programme focuses on helping children develop confidence, resilience, and a deeper understanding of essential mathematical concepts in a supportive and encouraging environment.

Our aim is to help SEND students experience success, develop resilience and build a more positive relationship with maths and learning.

Our personalised maths support helps students both locally and internationally, including those studying within British and international school systems.

  • Processing information
  • Working memory
  • Organisation and planning
  • Handwriting and written expression
  • Motor coordination
  • Speech and language
  • Social communication
  • Emotional regulation
  • Confidence in learning

At Bedford Tutor and Kite Tutoring, we recognise that every learner is unique. Rather than focusing solely on difficulties, we take time to understand each student’s strengths, interests and individual learning profile.

  • Building confidence and independence
  • Developing effective learning strategies
  • Strengthening organisation and planning skills
  • Improving memory and information processing
